Parsippany-based Zoetis to acquire Neogen’s animal genomics unit in $160M deal

New Jersey’s life sciences corridor is seeing another major move as Zoetis Inc., a Parsippany-based animal health company, announced Monday it has entered into an agreement to acquire the animal genomics business of Neogen Corporation for $160 million.

The acquisition, expected to close in the second half of 2026, marks a significant expansion. By integrating Neogen’s global genomics capabilities, Zoetis aims to solidify its position in the rapidly growing field of Precision Animal Health.

Headquartered at 10 Sylvan Way, Zoetis has long been a cornerstone of New Jersey’s pharmaceutical and biotech economy. This latest deal brings Neogen’s extensive genomic infrastructure under the Zoetis umbrella, including:

  • Global reach: Five laboratories located in the U.S., Brazil, Australia, China, and the U.K.

  • Technical edge: A comprehensive genotyping platform using fixed array and sequencing technologies.

  • Market leadership: Specialized tools for the U.S. beef and dairy industries that provide predictive insights into animal productivity and sustainability.

“The addition of Neogen’s genomics business strengthens our commitment to advancing animal health through innovation, data, and technology,” Jamie Brannan, chief commercial officer at Zoetis said.

For Zoetis, the move isn’t just about size—it’s about data. The integration of these technologies will allow the company to offer livestock producers and veterinarians more “individualized care” plans. By using DNA testing to predict health outcomes, farmers can make more informed decisions about breeding and herd management, ultimately leading to more sustainable food production.

While the agreement is signed, the transition will take time. The transaction is subject to standard regulatory approvals and closing conditions. Zoetis leadership has emphasized a commitment to a “seamless integration” for the employees and customers of the acquired unit.

As of today’s announcement, Zoetis remains the largest player in the animal health industry, with a market capitalization exceeding $55 billion and a portfolio that reaches more than 100 countries.
