Mercury Public Affairs, a leading national bipartisan public strategy firm, announced that Nick Mammano, former president and CEO of the New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority (NJSEA), has rejoined its New Jersey team as managing director.
Mammano, who previously served as a vice president at the firm before entering high-level public service, returns to the private sector with a resume bolstered by oversight of the state’s most high-profile sports and infrastructure projects.
As the head of the NJSEA, Mammano was responsible for the Meadowlands Sports Complex, which includes MetLife Stadium, the Meadowlands Racetrack, and the American Dream mall. His tenure was defined by large-scale economic development and meticulous planning for international events.
Most notably, Mammano spearheaded the state’s preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Under his leadership, the NJSEA worked to secure and plan for eight matches at MetLife Stadium, including the highly anticipated World Cup Final scheduled for July 19.
“Nick’s experience and perspective leading a key New Jersey organization with international visibility will be a strong addition to our team,” Michael Soliman, Mercury partner and leader of the New Jersey office said. “I’ve seen firsthand how Nick’s strong work ethic and extensive knowledge of state and local politics deliver results.”
Mammano’s return to Mercury marks the latest chapter in a career deeply embedded in Garden State policy. His background includes:
- Chief of staff to state Senator Joseph Lagana: Serving for over eight years across both houses of the New Jersey Legislature.
- NJSEA chief of staff: Managing the internal operations of the Authority before ascending to the CEO role.
- Extensive campaign experience: Directing strategy for various state and local political efforts.
In his new role at Mercury’s Saddle Brook office, Mammano will help clients navigate the intersection of business, government, and public policy.
“It is exciting to return to a team known for delivering valuable results,” Mammano said. “I am looking forward to helping our clients navigate today’s evolving public policy environment and position them for long-term success.”
Mercury Partner Mo Butler added that Mammano’s “wealth of experience driving economic growth in New Jersey and the region” will be a critical asset as the firm expands its footprint in the lead-up to the 2026 global spotlight.
