Stephen Dilts, long a thought-leader on transportation and a former commissioner of Department of Transportation, was named the chief operating officer at the N.J. Turnpike Authority.

Dilts comes to the role after nearly a dozen years at HNTB, a civil engineering firm that specializes in transportation infrastructure. He was the firm’s N.J. officer leader the past four years. Among his roles prior to that was a stint at the NJ Turnpike Authority, where he served as deputy executive director and chief of staff.
“(I’m) so very proud to share that I have stepped back into public service as the Chief Operating Officer of the New Jersey Turnpike Authority,” Dilts wrote on LinkedIn. “I am grateful for the support of Executive Director Kris Kolluri, Chair Priya Jain and our Board of Commissioners for their confidence.
“(I’m) eager to work with my new colleagues and support the customers of the New Jersey Turnpike and Garden State Parkway. Excited to answer the call to serve.”
Dilts, who was among BINJE’s Best: Power Players honorees in January, has had many years in public service. He served a two-year term as the mayor of the Borough of Hampton (2004-06).
