Deborah Heart and Lung Center appoints Dr. Mark Staroselsky to cardiology team

Deborah Heart and Lung Center, New Jersey’s only specialty heart, lung, and vascular hospital, has officially expanded its roster of specialists with the appointment of cardiologist Dr. Mark Staroselsky.

The hiring marks a homecoming for Staroselsky, who earned his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine and completed his internal medicine residency at the Rowan University School of Osteopathic Medicine. His return to South Jersey follows a distinguished tenure in New York, where he most recently served as Chief Fellow at Nassau University Medical Center.

Staroselsky joins Deborah with a specialized clinical interest in preventive cardiology, coronary artery disease, and heart failure. Beyond clinical treatment, he is a vocal advocate for understanding how socioeconomic status impacts cardiovascular outcomes.

During his fellowship, Staroselsky conducted critical research into the maternal health gap, studying how different socioeconomic backgrounds affected the health of pregnant women diagnosed with high blood pressure.

“I am happy to join my new colleagues at Deborah Heart and Lung Center,” Staroselsky said. “It’s an honor to call myself a Deborah physician, and I look forward to building long-term relationships with my patients and helping them manage their heart health.”

In addition to his clinical work, Staroselsky brings a strong background in medical education. He has served as a mentor and teacher to medical students and residents, lecturing on complex topics such as:

  • Congestive Heart Failure: Managing the heart’s inability to pump sufficiently.
  • Pericardial Disease: Addressing inflammation of the sac surrounding the heart.
  • Aortic Stenosis: Treating the narrowing of the aortic valve opening.

His academic contributions include several peer-reviewed papers and case studies presented at national medical forums.

Staroselsky’s clinical perspective is backed by a hospitalist background at Jefferson Health New Jersey in Washington Township. He maintains active affiliations with several prestigious organizations, including the American College of Cardiology (ACC), the American Society of Echocardiography (ASE), and the American Society of Nuclear Cardiology (ASNC).
