Walters Architecture strengthens design leadership with strategic new hire

Walters Architecture has appointed Fred Brach, a veteran architectural designer with 25 years of specialized experience, to lead the design efforts for its growing portfolio of affordable housing communities.

The move marks a formalization of a long-standing partnership; Brach has already contributed to the design and completion of nearly 20 communities for Walters. He is currently spearheading design efforts for two of the firm’s active projects in Cranbury and Hamilton.

Brach’s appointment comes at a time when “green” building and housing accessibility are top-of-mind for Garden State developers. With over two decades in the industry, Brach is an expert in navigating the complexities of sustainable architecture and LEED standards.

“Brach’s depth of experience in sustainable design will enhance our growing affordable housing portfolio,” Joe Del Duca, partner and director of affordable housing for Walters, said. “Our team takes great pride in developing high-quality communities that not only meet rigorous construction standards but also reflect our long-term commitment to environmental stewardship.”

Designing affordable housing in New Jersey often involves navigating high land costs and intricate zoning requirements. Brach noted that his design philosophy centers on a holistic approach where materials and systems work in tandem to minimize environmental impact.

“One of the most rewarding aspects of my work is turning even the most challenging sites into successful developments,” Brach said. “Designing to LEED standards pushes us beyond traditional development practices, requiring a holistic approach where materials, systems, and construction techniques work together to lower energy use.”
