Avantik has appointed Jeffrey Waldman as its new chief executive officer, the company announced Monday, marking a leadership transition as the diagnostic lab solutions provider continues its national expansion.
Waldman succeeds Mark Zacur, who is retiring after overseeing the company’s growth into a nationwide supplier of equipment, consumables and service solutions for anatomic pathology, histology and dermatology laboratories.
Waldman brings more than two decades of healthcare leadership experience, including a 19-year career at Henry Schein, where he led strategic, operational and commercial initiatives across several businesses.
As president of Henry Schein’s global orthopedic division, he introduced product and customer strategies that drove strong performance. Most recently, he served as chairman and CEO of National HME, transforming it into one of the country’s leading hospice equipment and technology providers.
“Jeff stood out to us as the ideal leader to build on Avantik’s strong foundation and advance our momentum,” Avantik Board Chair Scott Garrett said. “His exceptional healthcare experience and customer-first mindset align directly with who Avantik is and where we are headed.”
Garrett also credited Zacur for guiding Avantik through a period of significant expansion. Under Zacur’s leadership, the company more than doubled its national service footprint, completed multiple acquisitions to broaden its geographic reach and expanded its portfolio of diagnostic lab solutions. Zacur will remain with the company as an advisor through the end of the year to support the transition.
“It has been a privilege to lead Avantik alongside a team I deeply respect,” Zacur said. “This is the right time to transition to a new CEO who can lead the company’s next phase of growth, and I could not be more confident in Jeff as that leader.”
Waldman said he looks forward to building on Avantik’s one-solution model for diagnostic labs.

Founded in 1971, Avantik provides equipment, consumables and service support to diagnostic laboratories nationwide. The company partnered with Water Street Healthcare Partners in 2023 to accelerate its growth.
