Bergen County officials recently presented a $100,000 Open Space Trust Fund check to Hasbrouck Heights Mayor Ron Kistner to support upcoming recreational enhancements at Woodland Park.
County Executive Jim Tedesco, joined by members of the Bergen County Board of Commissioners and county park leadership, delivered the grant funds on Monday, August 17. The award stems from the 2025 funding cycle of the county’s Open Space Trust Fund Municipal Park Improvement Program.
The $100,000 in funding—which is matched dollar-for-dollar by the borough—will be dedicated to acquiring and installing brand-new exercise equipment at the southeast end of Woodland Park, located adjacent to the pavilion.
“The Open Space Trust Fund has been a cornerstone of sustainable park development for more than 25 years,” said County Executive Jim Tedesco. “We are grateful for the opportunity to continue improving the quality of life for Hasbrouck Heights residents, alongside the mayor & council, that will last for years to come.”
Mayor Ron Kistner expressed gratitude for the county’s continued collaboration, noting that the upgrades will make the park even more accessible and useful for the community.
Established in 1998, the Bergen County Open Space Trust Fund has supported hundreds of recreation and development projects across the county’s 70 municipalities. The matching-grant program is designed to empower local towns to revitalize their open spaces and improve parks for residents of all ages.
“Our municipal parks are an important part of what makes Bergen County such a great place to live, and the Open Space Trust Fund allows us to work directly with our towns to improve these spaces,” said County Commissioner Chair Steven A. Tanelli.
