On Sept. 10, Bell Works Holmdel and the Axelrod Performing Arts Center (APAC) will co-host a free public community gathering in the Main Atrium to mark the 25th anniversary of the September 11 attacks.
The event will bring together residents, community leaders, and elected officials for an afternoon of solemn reflection, honoring Monmouth County residents lost in the attacks and recognizing the dedication of local first responders, rescue workers, and recovery personnel.
Program highlights and special guests
- Guest Speakers: Remarks will be delivered by Monmouth County Commissioner Tom Arnone, NJ State Assemblywoman Luanne Peterpaul, Inspired by Somerset Development President and CEO Ralph Zucker, and APAC Executive Artistic Director Andrew DePrisco.
- Tribute and Remembrance: The observance will feature a formal reading of the names of local residents lost on 9/11.
- Live Musical Performances: Attendees will experience performances by tenor David Smolokoff and the Monmouth Civic Chorus, led by conductor Kevin Vondrak.
Come From Away opening at Bell Theater
The commemorative events will set the stage for the following evening—the actual 25th anniversary on Sept. 11—when the Bell Theater opens its new production of Come From Away.
Curated by the Axelrod and directed and choreographed by Lisa Stevens, the Tony-nominated musical is inspired by true stories of community, resilience, and compassion in the days following the 9/11 attacks. The production will run at Bell Works through Oct. 4.
