As part of nationwide efforts for Hunger Action Month this September, Middlesex County is urging residents, businesses, and volunteers to step up in the fight against food insecurity through REPLENISH, the County’s food bank.
With more than 106,000 residents currently experiencing food insecurity across the region, REPLENISH and its nonprofit partner, Feeding Middlesex County, are rolling out a packed calendar of countywide events, food drives, and educational programs throughout the month. REPLENISH operates year-round to support partners across all 25 municipalities, distributing millions of pounds of food annually.
County leaders emphasized the critical nature of community-wide involvement.
“Hunger Action Month is a time for our community to step up and help residents in need,” Middlesex County Commissioner Director Ronald G. Rios said. “Whether it is giving your time, donating food, or helping spread the word about available resources, every action can make a difference.”
The county’s efforts are being bolstered by major corporate and philanthropic partnerships. Feeding Middlesex County recently secured two key grants: a $75,000 contribution from the FirstEnergy Foundation, and a $60,000 donation from Bristol Myers Squibb dedicated to purchasing holiday turkeys and chickens alongside providing hands-on volunteer support for Thanksgiving distributions.
“Food insecurity exists in our community, even when it’s not visible,” Middlesex County Commissioner Claribel Azcona-Barber, Chair of the Community Services Committee, said. She encouraged residents to utilize tools like the County’s Healthy Food Access Map to help connect neighbors to local pantries and assistance.

Year-round opportunities to Help
While September highlights these initiatives, REPLENISH relies on ongoing community support. Residents and businesses can contribute year-round by:
- Donating Food and Supplies: Non-perishables, as well as fresh items like meat, dairy, and produce, can be dropped off at the REPLENISH facility in East Brunswick (Monday through Friday, 6 AM to 1 PM).
- Hosting Food Drives: Local organizations, schools, and corporate groups can coordinate independent drives to keep community pantries stocked.
- Making Monetary Contributions: Financial donations can be made online via www.feedingmiddlesexcounty.org or mailed to Feeding Middlesex County, PO Box 781, Edison, NJ 08818.
- Volunteering: Individuals and groups can sign up for shifts at the distribution center or assist with community events.
