EVgo Inc. and Regency Centers Corporation announced an expanded partnership to deploy more than 400 new fast-charging stalls across Regency-owned shopping centers nationwide.
The rollout is projected to increase Regency’s total EV charging footprint by more than 20%. The expansion specifically targets key metropolitan markets across several states—including New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Colorado, Florida, Illinois, Texas, and Virginia.
Building on a partnership that began in 2020 and already encompasses over 150 stalls, the collaboration capitalizes on the convenience of pairing everyday errands with vehicle charging. Industry data shows that supermarkets rank as premier charging destinations, with roughly half of all drivers visiting adjacent retail or food establishments while powering up.
Each newly developed EVgo site will feature up to 24 high-power chargers capable of delivering a full charge in as little as 15 minutes, depending on the vehicle model. This rapid turnaround time aligns seamlessly with typical grocery-store visits, where the average American household spends about 23 minutes.
“EV drivers are looking for convenient charging options where they already spend their time, like grocery-anchored shopping centers,” Scott Levitan, executive vice president of Growth at EVgo, said. “Expanding our partnership with Regency will help us meet growing customer demand while making public fast charging more accessible in the places people shop, dine and connect with their communities.”
Mark Peternell, vice president of Sustainability at Regency Centers—which operates prominent regional mixed-use and retail properties in New Jersey and across the U.S.—noted that the infrastructure growth directly supports the real estate firm’s long-term environmental objectives.
“Expanding our partnership grows Regency’s EV charging footprint and gives more drivers reliable, convenient access to fast charging at the properties where they already shop and dine,” Peternell said. “Increasing access to fast charging like this supports the widespread adoption of EVs and advances our broader sustainability goals.”
