Hoboken Library director again leads National Library Advocacy Task Force

Hoboken Public Library announced that Library Director Jennie Pu has been reappointed to a second consecutive year as chair of the Advocacy Task Force for the Urban Libraries Council (ULC), representing the leading voice of North America’s major public library systems.

In her continued national leadership role, Pu will guide the ULC’s efforts to secure federal support and funding for public libraries as essential urban infrastructure. Key priorities for the upcoming year include defending the federal E-Rate program—which provides reliable broadband and network infrastructure for libraries and schools—alongside advocating for the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) and sustained investments in digital equity, literacy, workforce development, and intellectual freedom.

ULC President and CEO Brooks Rainwater praised Pu’s reappointment, highlighting her political acumen and the critical importance of ensuring urban public libraries have a seat at the table in federal policy discussions.

“It is imperative that urban public libraries have a seat at the table in federal policy and decision-making, and ULC works assiduously to educate Congress that public libraries are essential centers of literacy, digital inclusion, and workforce development,” Rainwater said. “We are so pleased that Jennie will continue chairing this key advocacy task force for a second year, bringing a wealth of experience and political acumen to our advocacy efforts.”

The task force will continue collaborating with lawmakers on Capitol Hill to champion policies promoting economic opportunity, health resources, and civic engagement across communities.

Pu’s reappointment underscores the Hoboken Public Library’s active role in shaping broader public policy and advancing community-centered library services.

Founded in 1890, the Hoboken Public Library operates out of its historic landmark building on Park Avenue, while the ULC serves as an innovation and action tank representing nearly 200 member library systems across North America.
