The New Jersey Economic Development Authority (NJEDA) announced that applications for its $25 million Take Charge Program will officially open on Monday, Oct. 5, starting at 10:00 a.m.
Aimed at accelerating zero-emission transportation across the Garden State, the initiative provides substantial financial backing to help private commercial fleets upgrade their facilities for electric vehicles (EVs).
The Take Charge Program addresses a primary hurdle for businesses transitioning to electric fleets: the high capital costs associated with charger hardware, installation, and site electrical upgrades.
To qualify for funding, projects must pair EV charging infrastructure with on-site renewable energy generation or energy storage systems. This dual requirement is designed to help manage power demand and reduce strain on local electrical grids.
- Grant Awards: Ranging from $100,000 up to $5 million, covering at least 50% of eligible project costs.
- Funding Source: Backed by proceeds from the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI) allocated to the NJEDA.
Who is eligible?
The program is open to for-profit commercial organizations purchasing and installing EV charging infrastructure in New Jersey. To qualify, applicant organizations must own at least two existing commercial-use vehicles, which can span light-duty, medium-duty, heavy-duty, off-road, or maritime fleet categories.
