Wawa honored Ari Shiner, the first-ever associate of its Supported Employment Program, for 45 years of service.

Shiner joined Wawa in 1981 through a partnership with Eden Autism Services that was established to create employment opportunities for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. He works at the Wawa in Princeton as a customer service associate.

Today, Wawa employs 600 associates across 1,200 stores through the Supported Employment Program.

“For 45 years, Ari has been a cherished member of the Wawa family and has inspired generations of associates with disabilities to follow in his footsteps,” said Wawa CEO Chris Gheysens.

Shiner was honored during a Wawa awards ceremony on Oct. 22 that celebrated nearly 50 associates for 25 to 45 years of services.

“Wawa’s foresight to create competitive employment opportunities for individuals with developmental disabilities has empowered thousands, including those beyond Eden, to lead fulfilling lives and become active members of their communities,” said Michael Decker, CEO of Eden Autism.
