American Dream to gallop into the Year of the Horse with month-long Lunar New Year Festival

American Dream Mall has announced a sprawling, multi-month celebration to honor the Lunar New Year and welcome the Year of the Horse. Running through January, February and March, the world-class entertainment destination will feature a curated series of couture fashion shows, K-Pop competitions, and traditional performances designed to unite the local Asian community and visitors alike.

In Chinese astrology, 2026 is the year of the Fire Horse, a period associated with high energy, freedom, and decisive action. To honor this “Red Horse” year, American Dream will illuminate the Dream Wheel in vibrant red from Feb. 15 through March 3, a symbolic gesture of renewal and good fortune for the year ahead.

The celebration kicks off with a heavy focus on youth talent and contemporary Asian culture, transitioning into high-fashion and traditional gala events.

“Lunar New Year is a special time when families and friends unite to celebrate new beginnings,” Laura Deswart, senior vice president of leasing and Asian Marketing at American Dream. “The Year of the Horse brings energy, freedom, and endless opportunities. We are thrilled to celebrate this occasion with our local Asian community.”

The festival is anchored by a diverse Performance Series held at The Dream Stage and The Avenue:

  • 9th US Starlight Youth Talent Competition: A piano showcase highlighting emerging talent. (Jan 17, 24; Feb 28)

  • ALAND K-Pop Dance Contest: Top dance teams from the New York/New Jersey area compete in a high-energy synchronized showcase. (Jan 31)

  • Couture Fashion Series: Featuring Andres Aquino’s “Avenue of Dreams” and the Grace Chen Couture Runway Show, showcasing modern elegance and inclusivity. (Feb 7–8)

  • Lunar New Year Spectacular: An iconic celebration featuring lion dances, Kung Fu demonstrations, and traditional music by Impact Culture NYC. (Feb 15)

In addition to live entertainment, American Dream will incorporate traditional customs into the shopping experience.

The Red Envelope (Hóngbāo)

Honoring the custom of gifting “lucky money,” retailers and eateries will distribute traditional and digital red envelopes. In 2026, these envelopes are themed around the Horse—a zodiac sign symbolizing talent and sophistication.

The Lion Dance

A centerpiece of the February 15 “Spectacular,” the lion dance is a centuries-old ritual performed to drive away evil spirits and bring prosperity to the host.
