Aspen Power acquires New Jersey community solar projects to expand clean energy access

Aspen Power, a distributed energy generation platform, has finalized the acquisition of two community solar projects in New Jersey from Ecogy Energy. The projects, located in Millville in South Jersey and Ocean Township in Monmouth County, have a combined capacity of just over one megawatt direct current (MWdc).

The newly acquired facilities, which are nearing the start of construction, are expected to generate more than 1.1 million kilowatt-hours (kWh) in their first year. This clean energy will be fed into the grids of the Atlantic City Electric and Jersey Central Power & Light utility territories, providing discounted electricity rates to subscribers.

According to Dan Gulick, executive vice president of Community Solar at Aspen Power, the collaboration with Ecogy Energy is crucial for advancing the clean energy transition. “By building on Ecogy’s strong foundation, we are not only helping to decarbonize the grid but also driving long-term economic and environmental benefits for local communities,” Gulick said.

This acquisition is part of a broader series of deals for Aspen Power across four states. The partnership between Ecogy Energy’s development expertise and Aspen Power’s financing and operational capabilities is designed to make renewable energy more accessible and affordable for New Jersey residents.

Jack Bertuzzi, principal at Ecogy Energy, noted the value of the partnership, stating, “It’s great to have a partnership with Aspen Power, who see the value in these distributed generation projects, and the outsized value they bring to the grid and the surrounding communities.”
