The New Jersey Devils have announced that Kelly Nash and Dennis Ruppe will join the organization’s coaching staff for the upcoming 2026 Development Camp, running from June 28 through July 1. This partnership with the National Hockey League Coaches’ Association (NHLCA) is designed to foster professional growth for coaches from underrepresented groups in hockey.
Nash, the head coach for Long Island University’s women’s hockey team, will participate on behalf of the NHLCA Female Coaches Development Program. Ruppe, the manager of hockey operations for the nonprofit Hockey in New Jersey, joins through the NHLCA BIPOC Coaches Program. Both initiatives aim to provide participants with hands-on experience in leadership, communication, skill development, and career advancement.
Beyond their participation in the Development Camp, these coaches will continue to engage with the Devils’ full-time staff throughout the season through a series of in-person and remote mentorship opportunities.
Both participants bring significant experience to the Devils’ organization:
- Kelly Nash: A 2024 NEWHA Coach of the Year, Nash has rapidly built the LIU Sharks into a contender, securing conference regular-season titles and the program’s first-ever NCAA Tournament berth. A two-time national champion as a player at Wisconsin, she also brings professional experience from her time with the Premier Hockey Federation’s Metropolitan Riveters.
- Dennis Ruppe: Ruppe currently serves as the manager of hockey operations for Hockey in New Jersey, an organization dedicated to providing underserved youth with free access to the sport. His background includes championship-level play in the EHL and ACHA, as well as extensive coaching experience ranging from individual private skills instruction to behind-the-bench roles.
