In a streak of consistency that spans nearly two decades, Public Service Enterprise Group (PSEG) has once again been named to the Dow Jones Best-in-Class North America Index. This marks the 18th consecutive year that New Jersey’s largest utility provider has earned this distinction, highlighting its role as a regional leader in environmental performance and community advocacy.
The index, curated by S&P Global, evaluates companies on a rigorous set of criteria including long-term sustainability practices, workforce development, and corporate citizenship. For PSEG, which serves roughly 2.4 million electric and 1.9 million gas customers, the 2026 recognition serves as a roadmap of its recent achievements in the Garden State.
Central to PSEG’s “Best in Class” status is its massive footprint in New Jersey’s carbon-free energy sector. The company’s nuclear fleet in South Jersey remains the backbone of the state’s clean energy goals, providing over 80% of New Jersey’s carbon-free generation.
In addition to generation, the utility has focused heavily on the “demand” side of the equation:
- Customer Savings: Expanded energy efficiency programs are currently helping New Jersey residents and businesses save nearly $960 million annually.
- Emission Reductions: The company has achieved a 95% reduction in operational greenhouse gas emissions compared to a 2005 baseline.
- Biodiversity: Newer initiatives include a vegetation management program that prioritizes pollinator habitats and local tree plantings.
PSEG’s presence extends beyond the power lines and into the state’s economic fabric. In 2025 alone, the company contributed approximately $2.4 billion to the New Jersey economy.
“Being recognized on the Dow Jones Index again this year reinforces PSEG’s longstanding commitment to sustainable practices,” said Rick Thigpen, senior vice president for corporate citizenship. “By respecting the environment, caring for our communities and developing our workforce, we are taking steps to help create a stronger and more resilient future for everyone.”
The company’s philanthropic arm, the PSEG Foundation, also played a critical role in the ranking. Recent highlights include:
- Charitable Giving: Donating $12.8 million to local causes in 2025.
- Community Relief: Launching a grant initiative for over 25 local organizations providing housing, food, and energy assistance to New Jerseyans in need.
- Consumer Advocacy: Successfully fighting a settlement at FERC that would have unfairly shifted transmission costs onto New Jersey customers.
With approximately 13,000 employees, PSEG is one of the state’s largest employers. The Dow Jones recognition specifically noted PSEG’s efforts to build a sustainable pipeline for skilled trades.
The utility’s Clean Energy Jobs Program has been a standout success, helping place more than 9,300 individuals into clean energy careers. Furthermore, PSEG’s unique technical school outreach program—which often results in “on-the-spot” job offers for graduating seniors—continues to provide high-paying, stable careers for New Jersey’s youth.
As the energy landscape continues to evolve toward a more resilient and electrified future, PSEG’s 18-year tenure on the Dow Jones Index suggests the utility is successfully balancing its operational excellence with a deep-seated commitment to the people of New Jersey.
