In a powerful fusion of corporate philanthropy and gig-economy logistics, Morristown-based insurer Crum & Forster (C&F) has announced a strategic partnership with DoorDash’s Project DASH to significantly expand food access for vulnerable populations.
The initiative, announced today, aims to power more than 17,000 home deliveries of fresh, nutritious groceries every month. By leveraging DoorDash’s massive logistics network, the program serves people who face physical or geographical barriers to visiting traditional food banks.
The charitable collaboration is a direct extension of the existing business relationship between the two companies. Crum & Forster has emerged as a national leader in the “gig economy” insurance space, providing specialized coverage for large transportation fleets and occupational risks.
By partnering on Project DASH—DoorDash’s signature social impact initiative—C&F is moving beyond the balance sheet to address the social needs of the communities where its customers and employees live and work.
“This effort reflects how the C&F values of ‘doing good by doing well’ extend across employees, customers, and communities,” said Barbra Katz, Chief Human Resources Officer at Crum & Forster. “We’re proud to support nonprofit organizations that are addressing food insecurity and helping deliver critical resources to the people who need them most.”
While the partnership has a national reach, its impact will be felt deeply in the Garden State. Among the key nonprofit partners receiving support is the Coalition for Food & Health Equity, a New Jersey-based organization dedicated to eliminating hunger and health disparities in local communities.
Additionally, employees from both Crum & Forster’s Morristown headquarters and DoorDash will engage in local volunteer efforts, providing “boots on the ground” support to the nonprofit partners.
“This effort shows what’s possible when mission-driven organizations come together,” said Daniel Riff, Head of Project DASH at DoorDash. “We can help connect individuals and families with critical food resources in a way that is efficient, scalable, and community centered.”
Since its launch in 2018, Project DASH has been a gamechanger for food banks and pantries. Traditionally, these organizations relied on “client-choice” models where individuals traveled to a central location. Project DASH flips that model, allowing nonprofits to coordinate deliveries directly to a person’s doorstep.
For seniors, individuals with disabilities, or families without reliable transportation, this “last-mile” delivery is often the difference between a stocked pantry and an empty one.
As inflation and rising food costs continue to strain household budgets across New Jersey and the U.S., the C&F and DoorDash partnership provides a scalable blueprint for how tech-driven logistics and traditional finance can collaborate to solve urgent community crises.
