How NJASEPS, the New Jersey Association of Special Education Partner Schools is advancing high-quality special education

Origin

It was created in 1974 to ensure that quality education and programs are maintained by schools and agencies for students with disabilities, and to promote better communication between the state Department of Education and the nonpublic sector of special education.

Mission/Vision

NJASEPS’ mission is to advance high-quality special education through effective practices, informed policy and strong partnerships that enhance outcomes and quality of life for individuals with disabilities and their families.

Key programs

  • Outcomes study: It’s the only statewide effort to track post-exit outcomes for NJDOE-approved private special education programs.
  • Annual student scholarship and art contest: Showcases and honors the amazing artwork of its students.
  • Innovations in Special Education Award Program (in collaboration with New Jersey School Boards Association): Recognizes exemplary programs and services for students with special needs.
