Local leaders tour Bristol Myers Squibb’s New Brunswick facility, celebrating 120 years of innovation and community partnership

Bristol Myers Squibb (BMS) recently welcomed local elected officials and community leaders for a special tour of its New Brunswick manufacturing site — BMS’s global hub for clinical supply manufacturing.

E.R. Squibb & Sons (now BMS) purchased this land in 1905. The visit marked a celebration of 120 years of scientific innovation, community engagement, and commitment to improving patients’ lives.

The tour provided an inside look at the cutting-edge work being done by the approximately 2,400 BMS colleagues based in New Brunswick. Guests had the opportunity to engage directly with scientists and site leaders, explore the facility’s labs and manufacturing spaces, and learn more about BMS’s impact on both global health and the local community.

Among the guests were:

  • Ronald Rios, director, Middlesex County Board of County Commissioners
  • Charles Kenny, commissioner, Middlesex County Board of County Commissioners
  • Charles Tomaro, commissioner, Middlesex County Board of County Commissioners
  • Debbie Hart, CEO, BioNJ
  • Chrissy Buteas, CEO, Healthcare Institute of NJ
  • Amanda Guadagnino, council president, North Brunswick Town Council
  • John Anderson, council president, New Brunswick
  • Jordan Lewis, district director, Rep. Bonnie Watson Coleman
  • Seth Levin, district director, Rep. Herb Conaway
  • Bianca Markovski, special projects specialist, Sen. Cory Booker
  • Leann Benny, field representative, Sen. Andy Kim

“Middlesex County is a leader in Life Sciences in this region, and Bristol Meyers Squibb is one of the key partners here driving innovation, cutting-edge research, and bolstering our community,” Middlesex County Commissioner Director Ronald Rios said. “The Board of County Commissioners and I applaud them for their commitment to health advancement and ultimately economic development over the past 120 years. We’re especially grateful for their unrelenting efforts around food insecurity that have made a positive impact on our residents.”

“Both of my parents worked at Bristol Myers Squibb, so I’ve seen up close what it means when a company truly invests in its community,” Middlesex County Commissioner Deputy Director Shanti Narra said. Their commitment goes beyond business; it’s about building a foundation for shared prosperity. BMS’ values are aligned with Middlesex County’s vision to strengthen the community by investing in education, health services, and supporting causes that matter, like food insecurity. I’m proud to represent the Middlesex County Board of County Commissioners to celebrate the many achievements of BMS and we look forward to their continued success in our County.”
