New Jersey American Water to acquire Gordon’s Corner Water Company, serving 15,000 Monmouth County customers

New Jersey American Water on Wednesday announced that it has reached an agreement to acquire Gordon’s Corner Water Company, a privately owned utility that provides water service to approximately 15,000 customers in portions of Colts Neck, Manalapan, and Marlboro Townships in Monmouth County.

The acquisition aims to secure the long-term reliability and quality of water service for customers in the region, which is adjacent to New Jersey American Water’s existing Monmouth System.

“This transaction represents the right succession plan for Gordon’s Corner Water Company, ensuring that our customers remain at the forefront of every decision,” David Ern, president of Gordon’s Corner Water Company said. “By selling to New Jersey American Water, we are prioritizing the long-term quality and reliability of water service for generations to come.”

Enhancing regional water stability

New Jersey American Water plans to gradually connect the Gordon’s Corner system with its broader Monmouth County infrastructure. This integration is designed to create additional redundancy and help ensure an adequate water supply in a region that experiences increased demand during peak tourism and irrigation months.

“This acquisition is primarily about ensuring continuity of service for Gordon’s Corner customers as their company transitions out of ownership,” Mark McDonough, president of New Jersey American Water said. “Integrating Gordon’s Corner into our operations will help support long-term stability in the region’s overall stressed water supply.”

The utility also committed to offering employment to approximately 20 current employees from Gordon’s Corner.

The companies will now seek approval for the acquisition from the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities (NJ BPU). The transaction is expected to be completed by mid-2026.

Upon closing, New Jersey American Water intends to adopt the current rates of Gordon’s Corner. As a regulated utility, any future rate changes would be reviewed and approved by the NJ BPU. Customers may also become eligible for assistance through New Jersey American Water’s H2O Help to Others Program.

Under the terms of the transaction, Gordon’s Corner shareholders will receive American Water (AWK) common stock via a merger.
