PGIM, the global asset management arm of Newark-based Prudential Financial, Inc., announced the appointment of Brian Towers as Head of Insurance and Strategic Partnerships.
In this newly created role, Towers will spearhead PGIM’s global efforts to deepen its footprint in the insurance sector, leveraging the firm’s $1.5 trillion investment platform to create integrated, large-scale capital solutions for insurers and reinsurers.
Towers joins PGIM’s Strategic Capital Group, a specialized unit designed to operate at the intersection of insurance and asset management. Reporting to Keshav Rajagopalan, head of the group, Towers is tasked with building a dedicated team focused on “transaction engineering”—the complex process of structuring investment portfolios to meet the unique regulatory and capital needs of insurance companies.
“PGIM has supported insurers around the world for decades, and we continue to see opportunity to serve them even more effectively with an integrated, specialist approach,” Rajagopalan said. “This appointment strengthens our ability to deliver a consistent, high-quality experience across that full spectrum, globally.”
Towers brings nearly two decades of leadership experience to the Newark headquarters. Most recently, he served as a Managing Director at Blackstone, where he was instrumental in scaling the firm’s multi-asset credit platform. His career also includes senior leadership stints at:
- AIG
- BlackRock
- Invesco
His background in commercial strategy and fundraising is expected to be a primary driver as PGIM looks to expand its insurance-related Assets Under Management (AUM), which currently stands at over $100 billion.
The appointment reinforces PGIM’s standing as one of the largest insurance asset managers in the world. The firm shares a 150-year history with Prudential Financial, providing it with a unique “insider’s perspective” on how to manage the complex risk and return profiles required by global insurance carriers.
