Secaucus-based Quest Diagnostics and Corewell Health signed an agreement to form a new joint venture, Diagnostic Lab of Michigan, LLC, to expand access to diagnostic services across Michigan. The partnership includes the construction of a new 100,000-square-foot laboratory facility at the Corewell Health Southfield Center in Southfield, which will feature advanced automated microbiology and high-throughput molecular testing technologies.
Under the agreement, Quest will hold a 51% stake in the joint venture, while Corewell Health will own 49%. In addition to the new facility, Quest will provide its full suite of Collaborative Lab Solutions to manage all 21 of Corewell Health’s existing inpatient and outpatient hospital labs throughout the state.
Jim Davis, chairman, CEO, and president of Quest Diagnostics, stated that the partnership will combine Corewell’s “first-rate academic expertise” with Quest’s “leadership in scaling diagnostic innovation.” He noted that the collaboration aligns with Quest’s strategy of forming joint ventures with top health systems to expand into key growth areas.
The parties anticipate completing the joint venture transaction in the first quarter of 2026, with the new laboratory expected to be fully operational by the first quarter of 2027. In the meantime, the joint venture will serve providers and patients in Michigan from the existing patient service centers and laboratories of both companies.
