The HealthCare Institute of New Jersey (HINJ) has been honored for its commitment to the state’s scientific community, receiving the 2026 “STEM Advocate of the Year” award from the New Jersey STEM Pathways Network.
The award, presented on June 25, recognizes HINJ’s weekly “NJ Innovates” campaign, which highlights the critical role of New Jersey’s life sciences sector. By showcasing local breakthroughs and the diverse professionals behind them, the campaign has become a key tool in elevating public awareness of the state’s massive innovation ecosystem and reinforcing New Jersey’s storied identity as the “Medicine Chest of the World.”
“This recognition highlights the essential work of our life sciences companies, which are not only developing life-changing treatments but are also driving the future of STEM in our state,” Chrissy Buteas, president and CEO of HINJ said. Buteas accepted the award alongside leaders from the New Jersey STEM Pathways Network and the R&D Council of New Jersey.
The New Jersey STEM Pathways Network, which presented the honor, is dedicated to expanding STEM opportunities across the state, from K-12 education to professional workforce development. HINJ, acting as the voice for the state’s leading research-based biopharmaceutical and medical technology companies, has long championed the connection between industrial innovation and educational pipelines.
The “NJ Innovates” campaign serves as a public-facing bridge, translating complex industry developments into accessible narratives that demonstrate the economic and societal value of the life sciences to New Jersey. As the state continues to attract significant investment in biotechnology and healthcare, HINJ’s efforts have proven vital in maintaining public support and fostering a collaborative environment for researchers, policymakers, and educators.
