Oakland Rehab & Healthcare welcomes Dr. Reza Farhangfar as pulmonology co-director following Newsweek Best Nursing Home honor

Oakland Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center, a leading 215-bed skilled nursing facility in Bergen County, announced the appointment of board-certified pulmonologist Dr. Reza Farhangfar as co-director of its specialized RespiraCare Pulmonary Rehab program.

The clinical leadership expansion coincides with the facility being named one of America’s Best Nursing Homes by Newsweek for the third consecutive year.

Farhangfar brings extensive board certifications in pulmonology, sleep medicine, and pulmonary critical care to Oakland’s clinical team. Affiliated with Valley Health’s Valley Medical Group and Atlantic Health’s Chilton Medical Center, he joins existing co-directors Dr. Rakesh Sharma and Dr. Malwinder Singh at the helm of the RespiraCare program.

“The Oakland team is pleased to welcome Dr. Farhangfar, who is well known in the region for his pulmonology expertise and caring manner,” Erin Studt, regional director of network development at Marquis Health Consulting Services, which supports the center, said.

Oakland’s RespiraCare program is structured to enhance lung function and support recovery following illness or hospitalization, accommodating patients ranging from newly diagnosed individuals to those managing complex, chronic respiratory conditions.

The appointment arrives on the heels of multiple accolades for the facility:

  • Newsweek recognition: Oakland was named among the top 1,200 nursing homes nationwide in Newsweek’s 2026 rankings (compiled in partnership with Statista), which heavily weigh clinical quality metrics, peer recommendations, accreditations, and resident satisfaction.
  • Atlantic Health System partnership: Oakland serves as an exclusive Pulmonary Integrated Care (PIC) partner with Atlantic Health System, collaborating on clinical management, COPD and pneumonia post-acute care, and staff education.
  • CMS five-star rating: The facility proudly maintains a Five-Star Quality Measures rating from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).

Located at 20 Breakneck Road in Oakland, the center specializes in post-hospital care, short-term rehabilitation, and long-term residential services. Further information on programs and admissions is available directly through the Oakland Rehab & Healthcare Portal.
