United Airlines is making it easier for passengers flying out of Newark Liberty International Airport to find out if their departing or arriving flights are part of the FAA-mandated reductions.
In addition to direct correspondence from the carrier and information on its app, United has set up a website that details which United flights across the country are being cancelled due to the FAA’s desire to reduce runs during the government shutdown (which has reduced the number of air traffic controllers and TSA agents who are working – many of which are working without pay).
The site lists cancelled flights (by day) from around the country (so, obviously those coming into Newark, too).
United previously has said that no long-haul flights (those over six hours) or international flights would be cancelled.
United also has said that passengers can get refunds for their flights (whether they have been cancelled or not) for any reason.
A look on the site for Sunday (Nov. 9) shows 12 flights departing from Newark and 12 flights scheduled to arrive in Newark have been cancelled.
A look on the site for Monday (Nov. 10) shows 16 flights departing from Newark and 16 flights scheduled to arrive in Newark have been cancelled.
All of this comes at a time when the airline is greatly enhancing its service and experience.
There is a push to use more sustainable fuel and increase WiFi access on flights. And a push to improve pre-flight experience, as evident by the airline’s new Polaris lounge in Newark, which was expanded earlier this year.
