PSE&G and PSEG Foundation launch $1.5M community relief initiative

PSE&G and the PSEG Foundation on Monday announced a major $1.5 million Community Relief Initiative to provide critical assistance to households across New Jersey and Long Island facing economic hardship.

The one-year initiative will distribute grants to over 25 local organizations to deliver support for core needs, including:

  • Energy Assistance and Housing Relief

  • Food and Essential Services

The funding is designed to strengthen the capacity of nonprofit partners, ensuring the continuity of vital services as families contend with rising costs and economic uncertainty.

The initiative provides significant support to organizations that form the backbone of community assistance, including:

  • SHARES Nation (formerly NJ SHARES) for energy assistance and housing relief.

  • Community FoodBank of New Jersey, Food Bank of South Jersey, and Island Harvest Food Bank (PSEG Long Island partner) to bolster hunger-relief efforts.

  • More than 20 other local organizations, such as the St. James Social Service Corporation, providing on-the-ground support.

“At PSE&G and the PSEG Foundation, we believe true community support goes beyond providing safe and reliable energy—it’s about building strong partnerships with organizations that understand local needs,” Calvin Ledford Jr., president, PSEG Foundation and director Corporate Social Responsibility said.

The announcement coincides with the Foundation’s inaugural nonprofit partner conference on December 9, bringing together more than 135 community leaders. The event, titled “Powering Communities: Partnering for a More Affordable New Jersey,” aims to deepen collaboration, share practical insights, and equip partners with the tools and knowledge needed to expand access to vital services for residents.

Partners expressed deep gratitude, emphasizing that the funding comes at a crucial time. Cheryl Stowell, CEO SHARES Nation, noted the support will “help strengthen our capacity to assist those most vulnerable,” while Elizabeth McCarthy, president and CEO of the Community FoodBank of New Jersey, highlighted that the funding will allow CFBNJ to “strengthen our emergency hunger-relief efforts.”

The initiative underscores PSE&G and the PSEG Foundation’s ongoing dedication to community well-being and is a collaborative effort to deliver meaningful, lasting support for families in New Jersey and Long Island.
