Fair Lawn’s main street revival: Family Affair Deli shows power of community partnerships

Ribbon‑cutting underscores how local officials and business leaders sustain legacy while embracing new ownership

A Family Affair Italian Deli & Catering in Fair Lawn isn’t just known for its sandwiches and desserts — it’s become a symbol of how local officials and business leaders can work together to keep Main Street thriving.

A recent ribbon-cutting, led by Fair Lawn Chamber of Commerce and Fair Lawn Main Street Inc., showed how.

The establishment first opened in Fair Lawn’s Broadway District in 1995.

In 2024, Fair Lawn was chosen to participate in the United States Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Administration’s federally funded Economic Recovery Corps.

The program, administered by the International Economic Development Council, is designed to help improve economic development outcomes in key regions.

In 2025, longtime owner Eddie Tsi sold the business to the Francisco family, who bring more than thirty-five years of progressive experience in the delicatessen industry.

“Taking over this deli is more than a new chapter; it’s a continuation of a beautiful story that began long before us,” the Francisco family said in a statement. “Today, we are honored to carry that torch forward.”

Andrea Pass, executive director of the Fair Lawn Chamber of Commerce, said helping an established business transfer to new ownership, was great to see.

“The commitment to preserving the legacy of A Family Affair speaks to the growing vitality of Fair Lawn and its business community, especially within the Broadway District,” she said. “We look forward to supporting the Francisco family as they embark on this exciting new chapter.”
