NJASEPS announces new board leadership; Rachel Tait named president

The New Jersey Association of Special Education Partner Schools (NJASEPS) has officially ushered in its new leadership team for the 2026-2027 term, appointing Rachel Tait of the Eden School as Board President.

NJASEPS, a prominent nonprofit formerly known as ASAH, represents private special education schools across New Jersey. These institutions provide critical, highly specialized services to over 10,000 individuals with disabilities, ranging from infants to young adults.

Tait takes the helm during a pivotal time for the organization, which rebranded to NJASEPS in 2025. In her new role, she will lead the board in advocating for the member schools and ensuring they remain sustainable in a changing educational landscape.

“It is a privilege to collaborate with our Board and advocate for our member schools during my presidency,” Tait said. “I am committed to advancing initiatives that support long-term sustainability for our schools, while continuing to strengthen the services and resources we provide to our members.”

Tait also extended her gratitude to outgoing president Brian Detlefsen of The Forum School, crediting his leadership for the organization’s current momentum.

Supporting Tait is a team of experienced educators and administrators from across the state:

  • First Vice President: Kenneth Alter (Deron School)

  • Second Vice President: Michael Farrelly (The Gramon Family of Schools)

  • Secretary: Regina Irwin (Hampton Academy)

  • Treasurer: Annmarie Scorzo (Windsor & Shepard Schools)

  • Immediate Past President: Brian Detlefsen (The Forum School)

In addition to the executive officers, NJASEPS appointed several At-Large Members and Regional Representatives to ensure that schools from all corners of New Jersey—from the North Jersey Elks Developmental Disabilities Agency to the Y.A.L.E. Schools in the south—have a voice in the association’s mission.

These trustees represent four distinct regions, providing a local perspective on the challenges and successes of special education programs throughout the state.
