Allen Langjahr, a highly respected attorney with decades of experience in the healthcare industry, has joined Genova Burns as Of Counsel, further developing the firm’s insurance, pharmacy benefit management, pharmaceutical and regulatory compliance capabilities, the firm announced.
Langjahr brings a unique combination of in-house and outside counsel experience representing pharmacy benefit managers, health plans, pharmacies, pharmaceutical companies, health care technology organizations, rebate aggregators and other participants throughout the prescription drug supply chain. His practice focuses on regulatory compliance, contracting, licensing, investigations, reimbursement, data privacy, and healthcare operations in an increasingly complex and scrutinized regulatory environment.
Langjahr’s arrival comes at a time when PBMs, pharmaceutical manufacturers, health insurers, and pharmacies face unprecedented legal, legislative and regulatory scrutiny at both the federal and state levels. His experience navigating these challenges positions Genova Burns to provide clients with strategic counsel on matters ranging from contracting and compliance to government investigations and operational risk management.
Genova Burns Managing Partner Jennifer Borek applauded the announcement.
“Allen’s depth of knowledge within the pharmacy and healthcare ecosystem is exceptional,” she said. “He understands not only the legal and regulatory framework governing healthcare organizations, but also the business realities that drive decision-making for PBMs, health plans, pharmacies, and pharmaceutical companies.
“His addition enhances our ability to serve clients operating in one of the most highly regulated sectors of the economy.”
Prior to joining Genova Burns, Langjahr served as general counsel to multiple pharmacy benefit management organizations and related healthcare entities.
Throughout his career, he has advised clients on a wide range of issues, including Medicare and Medicaid compliance, 340B programs, HIPAA and privacy matters, anti-kickback and fraud and abuse laws, rebate and manufacturer agreements, pharmacy network arrangements, utilization management programs, patient engagement initiatives and government investigations.
His experience spans virtually every segment of the prescription drug delivery and reimbursement system, allowing him to provide practical, business-oriented guidance informed by firsthand industry experience.
Langjahr said he is eager to join the firm.
“Health care organizations today are navigating an environment that is evolving rapidly from both a regulatory and operational perspective,” he said. “I am excited to join Genova Burns because of my long-time connections to the firm, its reputation, its strong healthcare and insurance-related capabilities and its collaborative approach to serving clients.
“Together, we are well-positioned to help organizations manage risk, maintain compliance and seize opportunities in a changing health care landscape.”
The addition of Langjahr deepens Genova Burns’ insurance platform and complements the firm’s existing strengths in health care regulation, insurance, labor and employment, litigation, government affairs, data privacy, and corporate transactions. His experience representing stakeholders across the health care continuum provides clients with a comprehensive perspective on the legal and business challenges impacting the prescription drug marketplace.
