Students 2 Science has appointed Dan Barnett as executive director, effective Sept. 1, the Whippany-based nonprofit announced Monday.
Barnett succeeds co-founder and President Paul Winslow, who is stepping down after 17 years.
Students 2 Science is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that provides hands-on learning experiences to encourage students to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering and math.
Since 2009, the organization has reached more than 350,000 students through virtual and in-person programs and partnerships with more than 200 schools, districts, charter networks and community organizations. S2S operates technology centers in Whippany and Newark.
Winslow will join the S2S Board of Trustees to continue providing strategic guidance for the organization.
Barnett has served as S2S’ chief development officer for five years. In that role, he helped launch the Career Advancement Program, drove a significant expansion in program outreach and helped open the organization’s Apollo Technology Center in Whippany.
He brings experience in higher education leadership, fundraising and organizational growth to the new position, in which he will work with the Board of Trustees to expand S2S programs and strengthen the organization’s long-term sustainability.

Building on the foundation established by Dr. Paul Winslow, Dan provides both continuity and the leadership needed to expand S2S’s impact for students and communities.”
Winslow said he is glad he will continue to serve the organization as a member of its Board of Trustees.
“I am proud of what we have accomplished over the past 18 years and have the utmost confidence in the operational team’s ability to drive the Mission and Vision of S2S,” he said. “Every student in NJ deserves the opportunity to pursue enriching careers in STEM.”
