Twin City Shopping Center has officially reached full occupancy following a major new lease with national fitness giant Planet Fitness.
The popular gym chain has secured a 16,000-square-foot space at the 95,000-square-foot, grocery-anchored property located at the intersection of Garfield Avenue/Broadway and 53rd Street.
E.J. Moawad, senior leasing representative for Levin Management Corporation (LMC)—which serves as the leasing and managing agent for the center—arranged the transaction on behalf of property ownership. Jack Chera of RIPCO Real Estate LLC represented Planet Fitness.
The arrival of Planet Fitness caps off a robust period of leasing activity and capital investment at the Jersey City/Bayonne border property. Recent property upgrades include enhanced sidewalks, modernized façade and stonework, new LED site lighting, updated pylon signage, landscaping, fencing, and the addition of Tesla EV chargers.
“Planet Fitness is a strong addition to Twin City Shopping Center and a great fit for this neighborhood property,” Moawad said. “Our focus has been on strengthening the tenant mix with established operators and uses that serve the surrounding community.”
The fitness center joins a diverse lineup of recent additions, including PB Club (Jersey City’s first dedicated indoor pickleball facility), children’s play concept Catch Air, and Sakura Teriyaki. They complement long-standing anchors and eateries such as Aqui Market, Wendy’s, Taco Bell, Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen, and Dunkin’.
Positioned just off Exit 14A of the New Jersey Turnpike, Twin City Shopping Center benefits from a dense surrounding trade area and exceptional visibility. According to real estate analytics platform Placer.ai, the accessible neighborhood hub draws approximately 2.8 million visits annually.
For LMC, the transaction marks the latest successful collaboration with Planet Fitness, continuing a series of leases completed between the two organizations across the real estate firm’s Northeast and Mid-Atlantic portfolio.
