New Jersey Transit has introduced the CG Hopper, a free on-demand ride service for seniors and people with disabilities in Camden and Gloucester counties.
The service, operated by Via, is an 18-month pilot program aimed at providing more flexible transportation options for residents.
“The CG Hopper is a direct investment in South Jersey and the residents who count on accessible transportation most,” said NJ Transit CEO Kris Kolluri. “We’re giving seniors and people with disabilities a free, flexible way to travel across county lines.”
NJ Transit has partnered with the Senior Citizens United Community Services (SCUCS), Camden and Gloucester counties, on the program. It also partnered with the Alan M. Voorhees Transportation Center at Rutgers, which will analyze service data, evaluate outcomes, and identify practices to help guide future mobility initiatives in New Jersey.
Christina Renna, CEO of the Chamber of Commerce Southern New Jersey, said one of the biggest challenges in South Jersey is connecting communities across county lines, particularly for residents who don’t have easy access to transportation.
“Making transportation more accessible and affordable improves quality of life and strengthens our communities, making South Jersey a better place to live and work,” Renna said.
All senior residents (60+) and people with disabilities in Camden and Gloucester counties are eligible for rides on the CG Hopper. SCUCS and Camden and Gloucester County current riders will be automatically enrolled. New riders must complete a one-time eligibility registration through SCUCS or the County of Gloucester Division of Transportation Services program. Registration requires basic information, including an address and any mobility device used; applicants qualifying based on disability must provide medical verification.
