The Bergen County Animal Shelter and Adoption Center experienced a highly successful “Clear The Shelters” weekend, finding permanent homes for 59 pets and doubling its adoption numbers from the previous year.
The nationwide adoption and donation campaign, hosted by NBCUniversal Local, inspired a surge of community turnout at the Teterboro facility. To encourage adoptions, facility officials waived all standard adoption fees for the weekend event.
This year’s totals comprised of 47 cats, 9 dogs, and 3 birds. The figures mark a significant increase over last year’s event, which resulted in 33 total adoptions consisting of 26 cats and 7 dogs.
“This significant increase in adoptions reflects the dedication of the Bergen County Animal Shelter and Adoption Center and its staff, and their commitment to finding families for the animals in our care,” Bergen County Executive Jim Tedesco said.
County leadership and shelter administrators credited the collaborative effort of staff, volunteers, and local residents for the event’s success.
“Our team works closely with each of these animals and cares for them deeply,” Bob Bergamini, director of the shelter said “Seeing them placed into loving homes is incredibly rewarding, and we look forward to continuing our mission of clearing out the shelters.”
