While other hotel properties in Mahwah, Park Ridge, Saddle River, Ramsey, and Suffern have scaled back operations or left the market entirely, the Crowne Plaza Suffern-Mahwah went in the other direction — initiating a multi-million-dollar investment. The property, owned by the Goldstein family through their development firm, Lynmark Group, is a generational business rooted in long-term community investment. And one of the few independently owned hotels in the region.
Joshua Goldstein, developer and owner of Crowne Plaza Suffern-Mahwah and principal at Lynmark Group, said the time was right to double-down on the area.
“Over the past two decades, we’ve seen the hospitality landscape in this region change dramatically,” he said. “For our family and our team at Lynmark, this renovation was about more than staying competitive. It was about strengthening our commitment to the community, continuing to lead regional hospitality, and building on our legacy.”
Here’s how they did it:
Rooms: The 229 refreshed guest rooms featuring modern amenities such as mini-fridges, Keurig coffee makers, 55-inch flat-screen TVs, upgraded bedding, and high-speed wireless internet;
Open spaces: The hotel’s open-concept atrium and 25,000 square feet of flexible meeting and event space — ideal for gatherings of up to 600 guests — all got a new look.
Celebratory venue: The Montebello Ballroom, a centerpiece for celebrations and corporate events, was fully reimagined in collaboration with Karen Dallago of Dallago Associates, bringing a refined, modern aesthetic to one of the region’s most in-demand venues.
The property is just five minutes from the Mahwah border, offering access to both New York and New Jersey.
For event planners and families alike, Goldstein said the property features scenic outdoor venues, including a pergola for ceremonies and an outdoor patio with fire pits, perfect for private functions or relaxed evenings. Guests can also enjoy on-site dining at Flagstones Restaurant, which features a daily breakfast buffet and omelet station, or unwind over dinner and drinks at Koi Lounge. The hotel’s Waterfall Gardens, located at the heart of the lobby, offer a tranquil setting for guests to relax.
Known for its flexibility in event planning, the Crowne Plaza Suffern-Mahwah also includes an on-site ethnic kitchen that supports a wide variety of culturally specific menus, including kosher-style catering.
General Manager Scott McArthur said the facility has it all.
“We’ve always focused on enhancing the guest experience, and this renovation allowed us to take that commitment even further,” he said. “Whether you’re here for a milestone celebration, a business conference, or just a weekend getaway, we’ve created a space that feels both modern and inviting — one that truly reflects the spirit of the Hudson Valley.”
