DoorDash had $2 billion economic impact in N.J., supported 25,000 jobs

We’ll start with the comedy effort: Anyone who has a kid with a DoorDash account connected to your credit, knows the economic impact of the delivery service.

Now the serious take: The economic impact of delivery services has become substantial in recent years. And not just on the bottom line.

DoorDash’s recently released 2024 U.S. Economic Impact Report shows the positive impact on the communities in which they serve and the small businesses to which they partner.

The report found DoorDash supported more than $106 billion in economic activity in 2024, including significant contributions to New Jersey’s economy. In New Jersey, the study found that in 2024:

  • Merchant sales in New Jersey supported more than $2 billion in economic activity.
  • These sales also supported more than 25,000 jobs for these merchants, the suppliers they rely on, and elsewhere across the state (not including Dashers).
  • Dasher earnings on the DoorDash platform in New Jersey supported more than $725 million in economic activity.

The report showcases how DoorDash continues to evolve as an essential resource for merchants, Dashers and consumers in New Jersey and across the U.S.

Nationally, in 2024, more than 7 million U.S. Dashers earned over $16 billion on the platform.

They also enjoyed a work-life balance that many would covet. DoorDash’s 2024 U.S. Dasher survey found that:

  • 92% said dashing provides them with more flexibility than other earning opportunities
  • 88% said they are happy with the overall experience of dashing
  • 86% said dashing made them feel more in control of their circumstances
  • 78% said they feel less stressed about their financial situation because they can dash when they need to
  • 63% said that the ability to create their own schedule was the top reason why they delivered using DoorDash

In addition to the benefits of being able to flexibly earn on the platform, Dashers also enjoy connecting with people in their communities – as 96% of Dashers reported that they feel satisfied with their experience of getting to know restaurants and merchants in their local community, and 91% said dashing has helped them to get to know their local community. Hundreds of thousands of businesses in the U.S. — from restaurants and grocers to flower shops and convenience stores — use DoorDash to connect with more customers and grow their earnings. In 2024, merchants reported that being on the DoorDash platform paid dividends: together, U.S. merchants made over $40 billion in sales on DoorDash. In the 2024 U.S. merchant survey, merchants see DoorDash as a key partner in achieving their goals:

  • 85% said without DoorDash, they would have lower overall revenue and 89% said without DoorDash, they would have lower customer growth
  • 88% said it has helped them reach new customers they otherwise wouldn’t have been able to access
  • 78% said DoorDash has helped them establish a bigger presence in their local community
  • 85% would recommend partnering with DoorDash to other businesses

Cheryl Young, head of policy research at DoorDash, summed it up this way.

“We are proud of our tremendous impact on consumers, Dashers, and merchants in New Jersey, and look forward to growing our footprint in the community for years to come,” she said.
