Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey is laying off 242 employees, or approximately 5% of its workforce, the company said through a WARN notice.
The job cuts, effective April 26, were not necessarily a surprise. Employees were told last fall to anticipate a company restructuring in early 2026.
Horizon is, by far, the largest insurer in the state, covering approximately 40% of New Jersey residents.
The layoffs impact employees at both Horizon headquarters in Newark and another location in Hopewell.
