NJIT launches new bachelor’s degree blending business and artificial intelligence

The New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) has announced the launch of a pioneering academic program: the Bachelor of Science in Business with Artificial Intelligence (B.S. in Business with AI). This new degree is the first undergraduate program in New Jersey to comprehensively blend a business curriculum with specialized AI training.

Beginning in spring 2026, the program aims to prepare the next generation of business leaders who are skilled at leveraging AI for strategic decision-making across all industries. The launch is a direct response to the surge in demand for professionals who can navigate both the technical and strategic facets of AI in the corporate world.

Aligning with state and university AI strategy

The new program supports both NJIT’s 2030 strategic plan to become a leading AI-centered university and the State of New Jersey’s efforts to establish a robust AI innovation ecosystem, which includes the forthcoming NJ AI Hub from the NJ Economic Development Authority (NJEDA).

“This first-of-its-kind program exemplifies NJIT’s commitment to interdisciplinary education and innovation,” NJIT President Teik Lim said. “By blending business with applied AI, we are aligning with New Jersey’s strategic vision and preparing our students to fuel economic growth in this rapidly evolving field.”

NJEDA CEO Tim Sullivan noted the program’s vital role, stating that graduates will have the “savvy to apply cutting-edge AI technologies to business challenges,” which is critical to the state’s economic competitiveness.

Program differentiators and competitive edge

Offered through the AACSB-accredited Martin Tuchman School of Management, the B.S. in Business with AI is designed to give students a competitive advantage through several key features:

  • Integrated AI Curriculum: Students learn to apply AI across core business disciplines, including finance, marketing, and operations. Specialized courses cover topics like AI-Driven Text Analytics and AI Strategy & Implementation.
  • High-Performance Computing Access: Students gain hands-on experience using NJIT’s “Wulver” supercomputing cluster, a powerful infrastructure that supports data-intensive AI research, mirroring advanced tools found in R&D labs.
  • Experiential Learning: The program emphasizes real-world application through industry partnerships, mentorships, internships, and initiatives like the NJEDA’s Innovation Challenges.
  • AI Strategy Capstone: In their final year, students complete a capstone project where they develop AI solutions for real-world business clients or startups, with guidance from industry leaders and alumni.

“Our goal is to produce graduates who can bridge the gap between technical teams and business strategy,” Oya Tukel, dean of the Martin Tuchman School of Management said. “By infusing AI across our business curriculum… we’re creating a talent pipeline of AI-savvy business professionals.”

The new degree directly addresses the rapidly climbing demand for hybrid roles—such as “AI Product Manager” and strategy consultants—that require both business acumen and technical AI skills, a segment of the job market that saw a 25% increase in U.S. postings in the first quarter of 2025.
