Robert Adamson, executive vice president and chief information officer of RWJBarnabas Health, has been honored by Becker’s Hospital Review as one of 148 hospital and health system CIOs to know nationwide for 2025. This recognition highlights IT leaders who are driving innovation and creating significant improvements for patients and providers.
Adamson is being recognized for his transformative work in leading the system’s “Epic Together” implementation, an $855 million project to unify its electronic health record (EHR) capabilities. His leadership culminated in a historic “Gold Star Level 10” achievement from Epic, which was a first in the vendor’s global history. This success was made possible by his strategic decision to implement a “strategic pause” during the COVID-19 crisis, which ultimately increased project efficiency by 43%.
A pharmacist by training, Adamson’s ability to bridge clinical and IT priorities has been a key factor in his success. He has also led the system to earn 15 of 19 Epic operational excellence trophies and “Level 10 Most Wired” recognitions from the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives at 11 facilities.
