Quest Diagnostics, the Secaucus-based diagnostic information services firm, is set to simplify the way oncologists across the country manage patient care. The company announced this week that it has become the largest clinical reference lab to integrate advanced oncology testing directly into OncoEMR®, the widely used electronic health record (EHR) platform from Flatiron Health.
By utilizing the OncoEMR Molecular Profiling Integration (MPI) feature, Quest is removing a significant administrative layer from cancer care. The integration allows clinicians to order sophisticated molecular tests—including the company’s Haystack MRD® ctDNA test for solid tumor cancers—directly within their existing digital workflow, rather than navigating separate, complex systems.
Enhancing care for community oncology
The initiative is launching through a pilot program that includes the American Oncology Network (AON), a major provider with more than 350 physicians practicing across 21 states.
“At AON, our aim is to provide comprehensive support… to help community physicians make cancer care better,” Dr. Brian Mulherin, medical director at AON, said. “Empowering them to use OncoEMR MPI via Quest Diagnostics is an important step in that mission. Our rapidly growing network of physicians can now quickly and easily order Quest’s innovative cancer tests, such as Haystack MRD, to help guide patient care.”
Molecular oncology testing often requires the analysis of hundreds of individual genetic biomarkers, which can lead to complex workflows and lengthy reports. The new MPI integration is designed to:
- Speed up account setup for Quest services.di
- Reduce steps required to place complex molecular orders.
- Provide easy-to-understand results directly within the clinician’s daily EHR view.
The integration will eventually grant 4,700 clinicians across the Flatiron network—spanning 1,600 community-based cancer care locations—seamless access to Quest’s genomic profiling services. While the pilot is currently active at select sites, Quest expects to launch the full integration to providers nationwide in the second half of 2026.
“We know that positive outcomes in oncology start with excellent diagnostics,” Asia Chang, vice president and general manager, Oncology at Quest Diagnostics, said. “We’re looking forward to providing oncologists at AON and other organizations a single-source ordering and results solution… as well as the world-class expertise they’ve come to expect from Quest.”
This move continues a broader strategic push by the Secaucus-based firm to make specialized testing, such as prenatal screening and Alzheimer’s diagnostics, more accessible through established IT and EHR platforms.
