Thousands unite at NJ Sharing Network’s 5K Celebration of Life to support organ and tissue donation

The spirit of community and hope was on full display this past June 7, as thousands of participants gathered in New Providence for the annual NJ Sharing Network 5K Celebration of Life.

The event, presented by MTF Biologics, stands as one of the state’s largest and most prominent charitable 5K races, drawing a diverse crowd committed to a singular, life-altering cause.

The walk and USATF-sanctioned race served as a powerful rally for organ and tissue donor families, transplant recipients, living donors, and dedicated volunteers. Together, they honored those who have given the gift of life and supported the nearly 4,000 New Jersey residents currently waiting for a lifesaving transplant.

The funds generated by this year’s event—bolstered by participants, corporate sponsors, and local contributors—will directly support the Sharing Network Foundation. These contributions are critical to advancing clinical innovation, expanding public education, and providing essential support services to donor families. Since the 5K series began in 2011, it has raised more than $14 million toward the organization’s mission.

The event arrives at a time of significant success for the organization. As a federally designated nonprofit and one of the nation’s leading organ procurement organizations (OPOs), the NJ Sharing Network recently achieved a historic milestone. In 2025, the generosity of New Jersey donors made possible 2,026 organ, cornea, and tissue donations—the highest combined total in the network’s history.

“This event is more than just a race; it is a movement of people united by a shared commitment to saving and enhancing lives,” organizers noted.

The NJ Sharing Network continues to partner with 54 local hospitals to provide hope and resources to those in need. With over three million New Jerseyans already registered as donors, the organization continues to advocate for the national effort to assist more than 100,000 people currently on the U.S. transplant waiting list.
