Virtua Health, the largest health system in South Jersey, has appointed Dr. Nicole Lamborne as the new president of Virtua Voorhees Hospital and Virtua Marlton Hospital. In addition to her new role leading these two facilities, Lamborne will serve as a senior vice president for the Virtua Health system.
A board-certified obstetrician and gynecologist, Lamborne transitions into this leadership position after serving as vice president of clinical operations for women’s and children’s services. She succeeds Mark Nessel, who is retiring after a career that included extensive leadership at Virtua Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Camden.
Lamborne brings more than a decade of operational and administrative experience to her new role. In her previous capacity, she was instrumental in establishing Virtua as a regional and national leader in maternal and child health. Her notable achievements include:
- Championing Health Equity: Spearheading initiatives at Virtua Our Lady of Lourdes that earned the hospital national recognition for addressing racial disparities in maternal health outcomes.
- Innovative Program Launch: Establishing New Jersey’s first hospital-owned, freestanding midwifery birth center.
- Medical Education: Developing an OB/GYN physician residency program that saw its inaugural class achieve a 100% board-certification pass rate.
- Patient-Centered Care: Leading the system-wide adoption of the TeamBirth model and creating Virtua’s doula services program in 2025.
“I am grateful for the opportunity to lead two outstanding hospitals that play such an important role in the health and well-being of our community,” Lamborne said. “I look forward to working alongside our dedicated colleagues to advance Virtua’s mission of helping people be well, get well, and stay well.”
In her new capacity, Lamborne will oversee operations, strategy, quality, and patient experience for the Voorhees and Marlton hospitals. She will also maintain her oversight of women’s and children’s services across the entire Virtua system, ensuring continuity in the specialized care she has helped build.
Lamborne earned her medical degree from Robert Wood Johnson Medical School and completed her residency at Cooper Hospital/University Medical Center. She also holds a Master of Business Administration in health care management from the University of Scranton and is a Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.
