Circulate NJ has thrown its support behind Senate President Nicholas Scutari’s request for Gov. Mikie Sherrill to postpone the implementation of new “ABC Test” regulations, warning that the policy could severely disrupt the state’s economy.
In a statement released Wednesday, Circulate NJ Chair David Greek echoed the concerns raised by major business and logistics groups—including the Association of Bi-State Motor Carriers, the New Jersey Motor Truck Association, and the New Jersey Business & Industry Association—arguing that the far-reaching consequences of the rules have not been thoroughly evaluated.
“Circulate NJ’s members are deeply concerned that these new rules will have a devastating impact on the state,” Greek said. “As expressed by the Association of Bi-State Motor Carriers, New Jersey Motor Truck Association, the New Jersey Business & Industry Association and others, there is a strong belief that this action and its consequences have not truly been thought out.”
The “ABC Test” is a strict standard often used to determine whether workers are classified as independent contractors or employees. Business advocates have cautioned that applying the framework rigidly to New Jersey’s supply chain and logistics sectors could mirror negative economic fallout seen elsewhere in the country.
“A similar proposal in California yielded brutal results,” Greek added. “We do not need that here in New Jersey. We thank Senate President Scutari for his efforts to bring reason and sanity to this discussion.”
Circulate NJ operates as a coalition focused on promoting the economic benefits of the state’s logistics industry through data-driven advocacy and stakeholder engagement.
