Stevens Institute of Technology announces free tuition for lower-income students

Stevens Institute of Technology has made a significant commitment to higher education access with the announcement of “The Stevens Investment,” a transformative financial aid program that will offer full tuition coverage for certain undergraduate students.

Beginning with the incoming class of Fall 2026, the university will cover 100% of tuition for first-time, first-year, full-time undergraduate U.S. citizens or permanent residents admitted to a degree program whose families earn $75,000 or less per year. The tuition will be covered entirely through non-repayable grants and scholarships.

The initiative aims to minimize the financial barriers faced by talented students from limited resource backgrounds, placing a highly competitive Stevens degree within reach.

“At Stevens, we recognize that exceptional students come from all backgrounds and economic circumstances,” President Nariman Farvardin said. “Our role as an institution is to identify that potential and work to remove barriers that might prevent these talented individuals from accessing the transformative education Stevens provides. This program reflects our longstanding commitment to fostering the next generation of leaders and innovators, regardless of their family’s financial situation.”

Focus on value and student success

The announcement comes as Stevens continues to be recognized for the strong value of its education. In April 2025, U.S. News & World Report ranked the university No. 9 in the nation for return on investment 40 years after enrollment.

To qualify for The Stevens Investment, students must be admitted for the Fall 2026 term and complete both the FAFSA and CSS Profile by the posted application deadlines.

“The Stevens Investment represents years of strategic planning to ensure talented students can feel at home at Stevens,” Vice President for Enrollment Management Cindy Chin said. “We are thrilled to have arrived at this milestone, and to be able to put a Stevens education within reach for more students.”

The new program complements the university’s robust existing financial aid structure. For the incoming class of 2025, Stevens awarded over $38 million in institutional aid, with nearly 99.9% of all students receiving some form of institutional assistance.

Beyond financial aid, Stevens has invested in student success by launching programs like the SUCCESS program and core curriculum specialization in The Frontiers of Technology, designed to equip graduates with the interdisciplinary life skills and knowledge needed to thrive in a challenging and evolving job market.
