Gov. Mikie Sherrill on Tuesday joined Moroccan Ambassador to the United States Youssef Amrani and FIFA World Cup 2026™ NYNJ Host Committee CEO Alex Lasry to announce that Morocco will base its tournament preparations at The Pingry School in Basking Ridge for the duration of the FIFA World Cup 2026™.

The selection of New Jersey as a base camp is particularly significant given the state’s cultural ties. New Jersey is currently home to nearly 10,000 residents of Moroccan descent.
“New Jersey is thrilled to welcome Morocco – and the rest of the world – to our state,” Sherrill said. “We are especially honored that Team Morocco has decided to make our state its home away from home this summer. It is a true testament to New Jersey’s exciting role at the center of the World Cup.”
Ambassador Youssef Amrani expressed his gratitude for the state’s hospitality, noting the power of the sport to bridge cultures. “Football possesses a unique power to unite nations, and we look forward to fostering enduring bonds throughout this journey,” Amrani said.
The Pingry School’s Miller Bugliari ’52 World Cup Field is no stranger to international soccer, having served as a training site during the 1994 FIFA World Cup. Following a comprehensive renovation in 2025, the facility now features:
- Two international-standard natural grass pitches.
- Modernized athletic amenities and locker rooms.
- A dedicated athletics center designed for elite-level professional preparation.

While Morocco will be stationed in Basking Ridge, Governor Sherrill noted that excitement will be spread across the state. Three additional national teams, to be announced shortly, will utilize the following New Jersey locations as their primary bases:
- Columbia Park Training Facility (Morris Township)
- Stockton University (Galloway)
- Rutgers University (Piscataway)
“We look forward to showcasing New Jersey on the global stage this summer and creating memories that will last a lifetime for our residents and visitors,” Sherrill added.
