Jersey City’s culinary scene is about to get another major addition. BRBQ, the newest concept from DOMODOMO co-owners Jae Park and Brian Kim, is set to open later this month at Journal Square Urby, delivering innovative Korean American cuisine, wood-fired flavors, and vibrant café energy to the heart of one of the city’s fastest-growing neighborhoods.
“At Urby, we see this area as a key opportunity to spark community engagement,” David Barry, founder and CEO of Urby said. “BRBQ captures that spirit perfectly. With Jae and Brian’s vision and impressive legacy in Jersey City, it will be a dynamic, street-accessible restaurant that brings real energy to Journal Square and becomes a lively gathering spot for both residents and the surrounding neighborhood.”
Known for earning a Michelin Bib Gourmand distinction in Manhattan before expanding across the Hudson to Jersey City in 2019, the duo behind DOMODOMO has quickly become key players in the local dining scene.
ONDO, their waterfront hotspot, opened shortly after the opening of DOMODOMO Jersey City, and now BRBQ marks their third concept in Jersey City—this time at the base of the 25-story Urby tower directly across from the Journal Square PATH.
“We’re thrilled to bring BRBQ to Journal Square and to partner with Urby to further expand our brand in Jersey City,” Chef Kim said. “We can’t wait to share our passion for creative, Korean-American cuisine with this incredible community and are excited to be part of this vibrant, innovative development.”
BRBQ will be an energetic restaurant and stylish all-day restaurant serving brunch and dinner, with a laid-back lounge atmosphere and a menu that leans into smoky, wood-fired cooking and bold Asian-American flavors.
Located at 532 Summit Avenue, Journal Square Urby includes 317 brand new apartments and was designed by Amsterdam-based firm Concrete, with HLW serving as Executive Architect. The property also features a host of energy-infused social spaces, as well as a striking 25-story mural by Felipe Pantone, the internationally acclaimed artist known for kinetic works exploring digital culture and transformation.
BRBQ will open Tuesday through Thursday from 12 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. for lunch, 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. for happy hour, and 5 p.m. to p.m. dinner. On Fridays through Sundays, the restaurant will be open from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. for lunch and 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. for dinner.
