Perhaps you remember Roy Rogers for the Double R Bar Burger. Or the Fixin’s Bar (no ‘g’). Maybe it was just its seemingly ubiquitous presence on the N.J. Turnpike that seemingly was lost to history when the Molly Pitcher location was replaced by a Shake Shack in 2019.
Roy Rogers is no longer part of the memory bin.
On Wednesday, the chain will open a location in Cherry Hill, its first location in the South Jersey and Philadelphia markets since the 1990s.
Located at 614 Haddonfield Roard, the newly reconstructed 3,300-square-foot store features several enhancements, including a drive-thru and expanded indoor and outdoor seating.
Roy Rogers Co-President Jim Plamondon is counting being the only burger drive-thru on the busy road.
And then there’s the whole nostalgia angle.
“The feedback from the Cherry Hill community since we announced this new restaurant has been overwhelmingly positive, and we have been working hard to make this opening a grand success,” he said.
The brand, which began in 1968, is glad to be back.
“We are excited to make this long-anticipated return, and Cherry Hill allows us to serve a growing, diverse community and introduce a new generation to the quality and variety that makes Roy Rogers a cut above,” Plamondon said.
Are more stores coming to New Jersey? That’s not clear. But there does appear to be a push to re-launch a Frederick, Maryland-based brand that is down to 24 company-owned restaurants and 16 franchise restaurants in seven states.
Plamondon said franchise investors are being sought to develop the beloved brand (go to https://www.roysfranchising.com/ or contact Joe Briglia, director of franchise development at [email protected]).
Or come by the grand opening, which will start at 10 a.m., he said.
“This is a true celebration for our Roy Rogers family, and we look forward to continuing the excitement over the next few months as we meet our new and returning Royalists,” Plamondon said. “Connecting with other local businesses and organizations is very important to us, so that we may become a contributor to the culture and success of the Cherry Hill community.”
