Global biotech giant Genmab, which has been rapidly expanding its team in New Jersey since arriving in the state in 2020, on Friday cut the ribbon on a new state-of-the-art facility at the Princeton Forrestal Innovation Center in Plainsboro.
The new facility, located on a 125-acre innovation campus, features state-of-the-art workspaces designed to foster cross-functional collaboration and attract top regional talent.
It’s clearly needed.
The Danish company, which specializes in innovative antibody medicines to transform treatments for cancer and other serious diseases, has grown from approximately 150 employees in 2020 to more than 1,000 today.
Company officials say the expansion in New Jersey reflects Genmab’s transformation from a research-focused company to a fully integrated biotech — discovering, developing, and commercializing its own medicines globally.
“This new site reflects Genmab’s strong commitment to New Jersey — not just as a place to grow our business, but as a hub of innovation, top talent, and collaboration,” EVP and Chief People Officer Chris Cozic said.
“It brings together the people and purpose that drive our vision: to transform the lives of people with cancer and other serious diseases through innovative antibody medicines.”
Genmab efforts in the state go far beyond their buildings. In 2024 alone, the company supported more than 30 nonprofit organizations across the state through charitable donations and volunteer efforts, including initiatives to advance STEM education among youth.
“We are proud to be part of New Jersey’s vibrant life sciences ecosystem,” Cozic said. “We strive to make a positive impact on the lives of patients and our employees and contribute to the communities where we live and work.”
Kathleen Coviello, the chief economic transformation officer at the N.J. Economic Development Authority, said Genmab’s expansion plays into Gov. Phil Murphy’s efforts to strengthen what has long been a vital sector of the state’s economy.
“New Jersey has long been a national leader in biotech innovation and this vital sector continues to expand and strengthen under Governor Murphy’s leadership,” she said.
Coviello praised Genmab’s efforts.
“Genmab plays a pivotal role in the fight against cancer, and this new location, the company’s second in New Jersey, will allow the cutting-edge business to continue its research, development, and commercialization of life-saving medicine and treatments,” she said. “The NJEDA is proud to support Genmab through its Emerge Program, which will create 300 new jobs in Middlesex County and build a stronger Garden State. Governor Murphy’s commitment to investing in our innovation economy, along with our talent pool and prime location, makes New Jersey competitive and the perfect place to do business.”
Debbie Hart, the CEO of BioNJ, said the expansion means Genmab’s already strong presence in the state just got stronger.
“Genmab’s roots in New Jersey run deep — from its origins as a Medarex spin-off to its rise as a global leader in innovation and patient-centered science,” she said. “As Genmab expands its presence here, it’s not just growing a business — it’s building a legacy of innovation and compassion.
“By creating new jobs, nurturing top talent and advancing cutting-edge therapies, Genmab is strengthening New Jersey’s life sciences ecosystem and shaping the future of medicine. We congratulate the entire Genmab team on this important milestone and thank you for choosing New Jersey — and for investing in possibilities, and in patients.”
Established in 1999, Genmab is headquartered in Copenhagen, Denmark, with international presence across North America, Europe and Asia Pacific.
By 2030, Genmab’s vision is to transform the lives of people with cancer and other serious diseases.
Being in New Jersey will help Genmab do just that.
“We are building a world-class pipeline with a goal to maintain our leadership in antibody medicines and continue making an impact on patients,” Cozic said. “Our new facility at the Princeton Forrestal Innovation Center fosters a dynamic innovation hub designed to attract and retain top talent from New Jersey’s thriving life sciences ecosystem.”
