ASAH, a nonprofit association representing New Jersey’s private special education schools and agencies, recently celebrated the academic excellence and artistic achievements of approximately 10,000 students with disabilities served by its member schools.
Young artists with disabilities were honored alongside state education officials and elected leaders at the annual Special Education Day awards ceremony, held at the Hyatt Regency in Princeton.
Students were recognized by age group, with first, second and third place winners receiving framed certificates and cash prizes.
A grand prize – featuring a framed poster and a check – was presented to the top overall artist, Catherine M. of Holmstead School in Ridgewood.
“Each year, this event reminds us of the transformative impact these programs have on our students, their parents, teachers and communities – empowering talented young artists to explore their creativity, develop new skills and thrive,” Stephanie Summers, external affairs director at ASAH said.
ASAH was joined by prominent leaders in New Jersey’s education landscape, including New Jersey Department of Education Commissioner Kevin Dehmer and Assistant Commissioner Kathleen Ehling, State Board of Education President Kathy Goldenberg and Member Mary G. Bennett and Office of Special Education Director Kim Murray.
Additionally, ASAH announced the 2025 Connections for Success Scholarship recipients:
