Tim Sullivan, who has served as the CEO of the N.J. Economic Development Authority for the entirety of the Murphy administration, told BINJE he intends to step down from that role by the end of the year.
“It’s been an extraordinary eight-year run and the professional honor of my life to be a part of the Murphy administration, but with the end of the Murphy administration looming, I’m in the process of figuring out what’s next,” he said. “I intend to end my time at the EDA by the end of this year.”
More from BINJE:
Sullivan said he does not have any firms plans for what is next — either in the type of role or the location of it.
Sullivan recently moved to Maryland, where his wife had an extraordinary career opportunity.
He still works and travels throughout New Jersey (his residency waiver application for his job was approved this summer, before he departed).
And Sullivan said continuing to work for a New Jersey-based organization remains a possibility.
“I don’t have any firm plans for what’s next,” he said. “I’m in the process of figuring that out, but I’m ready for my next opportunity and eager for my next professional chapter.
“The timing, with both the end of the Murphy administration and my family life, makes this the right time.”
Murphy praised Sullivan for his work at the EDA.
“Tim Sullivan has been an integral part of our efforts to build a stronger, fairer, and more equitable New Jersey,” he said. “As the CEO of the New Jersey Economic Development Authority since 2018, he has not merely helped drive economic growth — he has helped unleash an economic renaissance all across our state. He led our efforts to support our small businesses during the pandemic, created the New Jersey Innovation Evergreen Fund, brought 12 Strategic Innovation Centers to life, and established the best film incentive program in the nation, which has attracted top film and television production studios to the Garden State.
“Tim has been a key partner in creating a new era of possibilities for our workers and families. He will be missed by our entire Administration. Wherever he lands, I know that he will continue setting the highest possible standard of integrity, intellect, and public service.”
